Integrating Jawg in Tableau Desktop

Getting started

The following tutorial was created using the latest version of Tableau. The process is the same for versions 10.0 and newer. Thanks to these instructions, you could use Jawg maps to manipulate your data in Tableau.

Retrieve data

Jawg provides TMS files you'll need to use to import map styles in Tableau. Click on the link below to download these files:

Tutorial

Step 1

First, you need to download the TMS files provided by Jawg.

  • On Windows, paste all files in the folder C:/Users/YourName/Documents/My Tableau Repository/Mapsources
  • For Mac in the folder /Users/YourName/Documents/My Tableau Repository/Mapsources

Step 2

To edit a TMS file, use your favorite editor to open a tms file (here we use Notepad++ which highlight the code).

On line 3, insert your API key in username tag, then save & close. You need to insert your own API key for each file.

In Tableau now, open your existing project or a sample provided by Tableau. We use Superstore sample in our example.

Drag and drop a data in Columns (here we chose State), then click on the mini-map icon to load the map view.

In the menu bar, click on Map, select Background Maps then you will be able to see all your TMS files! Select your favourite layer and your map will be automatically imported.
